Lot 251 Silber and Fleming Vintage Dollhouse A striking regency era ,circa 1830-40, English dollhouse by Silber and Fleming. This 2 story box back type dollhouse slides perfectly and snuggly into place on a dark wooden base fitted with casters. It has an imposing portico with pediment and marbleized columns. The front door is embellished with a brass lion head and ring door knocker and glass transom above. There are eight glazed front windows with hand painted mullions and keystones. The façade is painted a creamy white with an overall brick pattern. Substantial wood quoins define the corners. A green pediment on the roof matches the shape of the pediment on the front portico. Original bale handles are still attached to both sides. Markings on the base suggest that a railing of some kind once extended across the front. Marbelizing on the front portico may not be original. The interior of the dollhouse is divided into four rooms and a first floor hallway with stairs. Consistent with English houses of the times, each room has a fireplace centered on the back wall. Three of the fireplace inserts, including the largest one in the kitchen, are by Evans and Cartwright. The house is papered throughout. The wallpaper of the kitchen, the hallway and at least one additional room appear to be original. Wallpapers in the other rooms, while old, are not original. Remnants of the older wallpaper can be seen in places. Condition of the wallpaper varies by room. There are some tears, some paper loss and discoloration consistent with the age of the dollhouse. The floors are either painted (original) or cloth covered (very old, likely original). The stairs appear to have their original carpet runner. The front windows have elaborate curtains made from Stripped or solid silk, lace and fringe. The curtains are intact but in need of cleaning. Accessories remaining in the dollhouse kitchen include an open cupboard, platerack, some crockery and a rug. The dollhouse measures 30” high, 29 ¾ inches wide and 16 5/8 “ deep. CONDITION: Good (condition as noted)
Estimate: $2,000 - $4,000 |

Lot 252 American Colonial Revival Dollhouse, Circa 1930-1940 A two story American-made dollhouse in the Colonial Revival style and the white and green colors so popular in the USA during the 1930s and 1940s. The dollhouse has six rooms in the main house and a seventh room, the kitchen, is placed in an adjacent wing. Two separate panels cover the front of the main house and the kitchen wing and, once removed, give full and easy access to the interior of the dollhouse. Architectural details include the dormer window centered in the main roof, dual chimneys and window boxes (I had these added to the dollhouse). The interior is painted (dark floors and pastel walls) and electrified. The original owner cleverly used metal soda bottle caps to fashion ceiling medallions for the light bulbs. This attractive and sturdily built dollhouse has a few nicks and scratches as befits its age and will provide enjoyment for many years to come. The dollhouse is 33 ½” high, 45 ½” wide and 16 ½” deep. CONDITION: Very good
Estimate: $400 - $800 |

Lot 253 American Dollhouse, Circa 1973-1975 First House, so called because it was the first acquisition in what eventually evolved into the dollhouse collection of the Dollhouse and Miniature Museum of Cape May, is American-made and was built by a gentleman named Thompson (no allusion to Noel Thomas intended) between 1973 to 1975. The dollhouse was created from the top portion of a vintage hutch. The dollhouse has three stories, nine rooms and a central staircase which extends from the first to the third level. One room is clearly a kitchen complete with linoleum floor. The floor and wall tiling in another room denotes the bathroom. A large room on the first floor is embellished with a fireplace and a hand painted mural (rustic woodsy scenery) on all three walls. The built in bookcases in yet another room designate it as the library. The two large rooms on the second level have a more formal air that suggests they be used as the parlor and dining room. The third floor rooms work well as master and children’s bedrooms. With the exception of the kitchen and bathroom, all of the rooms have finished wooden floors and wainscoting. The parquet pattern and the style of the wainscoting differs in each room! Paint and or paper complete the treatment of the interior walls. Portions of the dollhouse are wired for electricity. The light fixtures attached to these wires will remain. The dollhouse has a Mansard type roof which is shingled. The dollhouse is accessed from the front which is completely unobstructed. When originally purchased the dollhouse had glass doors (left over from the original hutch). These were removed as they added an enormous amount of weight to the structure, took up a great deal of space when open and obstructed the view of the interior. The sides and back of the dollhouse are painted sky blue. The dollhouse rests on a platform which has attached castors for ease of mobility. The dollhouse is in very good condition and is 55” high, 69” wide and 16 “ deep. CONDITION: Very Good
Estimate: $400 - $600 |
