Ferdinand Kaufman (American 1864-1942) PASADENA oil on canvas signed "Ferdinand Kaufman" lower right 25 x 40in. "Early morning San Gabriel Mountains Pasadena, Ca" inscribed verso. Kaufmann studied in Paris with Jean-Paul Laurens (1838-1921), Benjamin Constant (1845-1902) and William Adolphe Bougereau (1825-1905). He was a member of the American Art Association, the North Shore Association and the Laguna Beach Art Association although he was born in Oberhausen, Germany. Kaufman exhibited and won prizes at the Pasadena Art Institute (1929) and the California State Fair in Sacramento (1935, 1939). His work is included in the collection of the Municipal Art Gallery in Davenport, Iowa.
